Hi everyone, this is Harriet and Zach, reporting on the past few weeks in Room 23. It's been a few weeks since our last update!
For the past 6 weeks we have had a student teacher called Miss Barker. She's been doing lots of teaching and lessons with us. She has been teaching us our Science unit which is about what causes our land to change. We now know that people can cause the land to change, like chop down trees, build cities and build stuff that effects the environment. We have also been learning about movement, like how the tectonic plates move and continental drift.
Miss Barker has also taught us some different types of poetry. The first poem we did was a Diamante poem, which had opposites in it, and it had to include adjectives and verbs. The poem we just did was a Tanka poem. It is kind of similar to a Haiku poem because it uses syllables too but it is a bit longer. a Tanka poem has 5, 7, 5, 7, 7 syllables.
We've been learning about Football with Miss Barker because she plays football for a womens team. We have learnt about passing and how you have to use the inside of your foot, and how communication is important when you pass.
On the last day of term there will be a music performance for Grandparents. The orchestra will perform. We have Zach, Millie, Sam and Paige in the orchestra. Some people will also perform some songs they have been learning with Ms Emeleus.
For Reading, Mrs Hanson has been teaching us about heading and trigger words, which is a way to summarise what you have read. We are reading a text called 'What Causes Rain?". We are also practicing using 'I think that means' to show that we understand what we are reading.
Kapa Haka has been working really hard towards their Cultural Festival performance. The girls have to learn long poi and the boys are doing a haka. We are feeling really excited and nervous.
Last but not least, this week has been BOOK WEEK! On Monday we had a dress up day. We had to dress up as a character from a book then we had a parade so we could see everyone's costumes. We had a vote for best dressed in our class and Georgia (as Mary Poppins) and Jarelle (as Mr Stink) won.
On Tuesday we had an afternoon with our buddy class. We heard some adults read books to us and we read with our buddies. We also went to the book fair in the hall. Teachers are doing 'Read around the Rooms" where they go to different rooms and read books. Yesterday Whaia Mel and Mrs Dykstra read to our class. Today we are going to a book show and tomorrow we are doing a book swap in our class. A book swap is where you bring a book in from that you don't anymore or have already read and you bring it in to class to swap it with other people's books. Tomorrow we also have the 'Book Olympics'! We are excited!
We hope you enjoyed reading our blog post, don't forget to check next week for our next post!
Harriet and Zach
