week 6 times

This week Room 23 has been having good times. Firstly yesterday we had a healthy shared lunch. The table was full of vegetables and fruit of rainbow colours. Some people tried new types of food like pita bread or capsicum. It's linked with a program called Food For Thought. We were food detectives which means we looked at the back of packs of foods to see if they were healthy. Our class got given $60 to spend on a healthy shared lunch. Also we planned a menu for the class so we knew what we were going to buy.

We are practicing a dance for the end of term showcase which tells a story through movement and actions. Room 23 has worked hard on this dance piece in the afternoons. At first we did the 16 beat movement where we chose 'ing' words for our topic. Examples: Generating, flying, growing and hovering. We are choreographers in our dance piece.

In writing our class started a persuasive writing which we got to choose topics like our speeches. Our goal is to persuade the audience that our point of view is right! Here are examples of people we chose. Most of us did the class for the audience and some did individual people. Thank you for reading our blog we hope you enjoyed and we'll see you soon in future times.

Food For Thought Pictures

Week 4 Blog Post

This week has been awesome we have learnt a lot from food nutritionist Rita we learnt all about the food pyramid and what is good for our body and things that were occasional. She also taught us to be food detectives at the supermarket, we looked at the  back of food packets such as salt, sugar, dietary fibre and energy. Rita the food nutritionist also went to the Commonwealth Games she competed in a 100 km bike ride she told us that she ate brown rice, banana, yogurt and raisins all mixed together for her breakfast. Did you know that Nutri Grain has a whole heap of sugar which is 32.0g wow that's a lot compared to Weetbix witch is only 1.0g.

This week was maths week we have been doing something that is called a rich maths task the question was: The answer is nine penguins...what is the word problem? We had to find as many word problems as we could using this equation. We also got a choice number and we had to think of as many things as we could to do with that number e.g if you had 101 you could have done 101 dalmatians.

Reminders

A few reminders...
* Food for Thought supermarket permission and transport forms need to come back to school in the next few days. Thanks to those who have offered to take transport, I'll be in touch by the end of the week if we need you.
* Camp forms are also due in as soon as possible. If you would like to be considered to be parent help on camp, please read the SQP (suitably qualified person) criteria that is in place for Wainui camp. Thanks to those who have volunteered to be parent help, we have had a huge response so far!
* The class speech competition will be Wednesday 12th August (Week 4). It will be judged by Sam Pelham (Rm 14 teacher). 3 students per class will be chosen for the Senior team finals on Monday 17th August. Please make sure your child is preparing at home based on the criteria sheet I sent home last week. I have helped them to come up with topics and we have looked at structure and the criteria in detail, but the speech writing needs to be done at home. I am happy to look at any draft speeches if you like.
* We have started our dance learning in preparation for our dance showcase at the end of the term. Here are some pictures of our dance session last week.
